Heuston Station

But as the train pulled out, the sun was shining,

though cautiously — a woman’s guarded smile

at some weak play of humor. Silver lining?

No. Perhaps a respite for a while

in a land of drizzle and too many queues,

resentful songs of rebels long since beaten,

an awful shrink-wrapped sandwich still uneaten,

and evenings killed off with too much booze.
